There are landscapes that seem to exist before being contemplated. The sea, dark and cold, at the foot of the cliffs; the fog gliding through the trees, the wind bending the grasses until they seem like a single creature in motion.

There, where the land ends and the Atlantic begins, Ailanto draws inspiration from La mujer del teniente francés. Not to reproduce it, but to look at it again. The landscape turned into matter: the deep blue of the sea, the damp greens of the coast, the muted ochres, the flowers that the wind releases and carries away with it.

Silk with the lightness of the fog; velvet, with the depth of the water. And among the waves, figures that could belong to a dream as well as to a memory.
